The Cancano Lakes are a destination that appeals to many tourists: those who love cycling and those who want to spend a day surrounded by nature and admire breathtaking views.
Reaching the Cancano Lakes is not particularly difficult. However, it requires a long ascent with numerous hairpin bends, which offer an unforgettable view at every turn. But the climb is absolutely worth the view. Two large artificial basins, perfectly integrated into the surrounding nature.
There is something for everyone: hiking and mountain biking tours are available to suit the whole family.
The Cancano Lakes circuit
One of the many routes that are accessible even to the less sporty is the Cancano Lakes Circuit:
start and finish are at the Torri di Fraele (medieval towers); the route leads past Lago delle Scale and the church of Sant'Erasmo; a long, but flat dirt road, where you can enjoy mountain biking while admiring beautiful views.
The entire area is easily accessible and once you reach the top, you can relax at the picnic areas, while enjoying the sun and the shimmering waters of the lakes.
Using a bicycle, be it a mountain bike or a pedal-assisted e-bike, is definitely the best way to reach the summit.
But there are also plenty of hiking trails where you can have fun while enjoying the landscape.
There are several possible routes to choose from around the lakes. They vary in difficulty, thus making this landscape accessible both to families seeking peace and quiet and to adventurous groups of friends looking for action.

Starting from Bormio, the excursion becomes immediately exciting.
Head towards the Stelvio Pass and take the road to Livigno at hairpin bend number 3.
Continue on a flat section until you reach the road that leads to the Cancano Lakes.
The road is still uphill, but not an impossible climb that is also suitable for non-professional cyclists.
In this case, using an e-bike will help reduce the physical effort.
This is where you start to take the sharp turns, the so-called hairpin bends that are characteristic of this area. At the end of a straight section of 1 km, you ride through two tunnels carved into the rock and find yourself at the foot of the Torri di Fraele.
The spectacular views finally open up before you, or rather they continue to do so, if you consider the scenery you have seen along the way.
In front of your eyes, the stunning Cancano Lakes will now glow in the summer sun to leave you speechless.
